The differential on your Mercedes-Benz is filled with gear lubricant in order to keep all of the gears and bearings working properly and to keep the differential quiet and cool. This gear lubricant is kept inside of the differential by seals.
One such seal is the differential axle shaft seal. This seal is pressed into the differential housing around the axle shaft bore, and prevents gear lubricant from leaking out around the axle shaft. Over the years however, this seal is known to become brittle, shrink and start leaking fluid from the differential.
If you have noticed drips of oil on your garage floor from the rear of your car, your axle seals may be to blame. Replace your differential side cover seal with a new unit from Mercedes. This genuine Mercedes unit is guaranteed to be an exact fit for your car.
